Urban Environmental Policy

On May 8th 2013, emerging sustainable development leaders gathered at Wollman Hall at The New School to discuss urban environmental policy in three urban locations: Brazil (Rio de Janeiro), Turkey, and South Africa.

Presenters—mentored by Center Director Shagun Mehrotra—analyzed each of the cities’ transportation sectors in terms of climate resilience.  The analyses, based on a thorough examination of hazards, vulnerabilities, and adaptive capacities unique to their urban geographies, revealed how these cities can best address climate risk.  Presenters further utillized the analyses to craft specifi adaptation and mitigation responses and contextualized policy mechanisms which would be needed to operationalize action.
